THE DOS AND DON'TS OF MAGALUF!

DOS:
1. BEWARE OF THE 'VODKA'! Unless you simply can't do without vodka on a night out, I would advise that you go easy on the Vodka in Magaluf – or try to avoid it all together. Particularly around 2011-2012, a lot of clubs and bars were being fined for serving 'fake vodka' along the strips – cheap, disgusting stuff that looks and tastes similar to vodka containing a whole heap of other ingredients which in some cases turned out to be harmful or even deadly. Also, it leaves a really cheap, nasty smell on the club carpets which tends to waft, that horrid smell also makes it's way onto your clothes.. If you aren't all that fussed about Vodka like me, you can always stick to other spirits like Bacardi, Malibu, etc.
2. Go to a themed rave – Magaluf clubs love a bit of fancy dress and since there is always a different fancy dress themed party you won't get any funny looks for being dressed up – everyone dresses up.
3. Do book your BCM club tickets AS SOON AS you arrive – this is the biggest nightclub in Magaluf with three floors full of music, dance and alcohol. You can either purchase your tickets at the club or there will more than likely be a handful of promoters walking up and down the strip promoting at much cheaper prices – however, the cheap prices only last per 'x' amount of tickets. Once sales have reached a certain number, the ticket prices shoot up considerably, I'm talking 10's at a time! BCM is best known for being the performance spot for current celebs during the summer. Tim Westwood, Chipmunk AKA Chip, Mann, Miss Dynamite, Trevor Nelson and Wretch 32 were amongst the celebs who performed when I went :) Ahh.. a good night it was!
4. Do experience a Magaluf pub crawl! Honestly, they are so much better than UK pub crawls. This can be arranged through your holiday rep at your hotel. Usually, the reps will take on at least four different groups of people for the pub crawls and visit about ten different pubs! The best part is that as long as you arrive at the pubs with your rep, you are usually given free or discounted drinks! Always a plus. Sadly, we were unable to finish the pub crawl and probably only got to pub number 5 or 6, but maybe next time ;)
5. Do get a self catering apartment/hotel if you are looking to keep costs low. As much as we all love a good all-inclusive holiday, it works out much cheaper to stay in an apart-hotel with self-catering rooms. The food in Magaluf is dirt cheap (that's street food and restaurants) and you will probably save lot more that you would on buying food than on an all inclusive holiday.
6. Party it up! Sounds fairly obvious but let's be honest, there is no point in having a girls or lads holiday in Magaluf if you don't intend to party your little socks off! If you are looking for a more chilled holiday in Magaluf but still want to go out a couple of nights during the week, then September onwards is probably the best time for you! Other than that.. party, party, party!

7. Do dress up for the “back to school” night! This is exactly what it sounds like – a fancy dress night in Magaluf where you must dress up as a school girl or boy. Even the holiday reps get involved and take you to the best spots where there will be plenty of games and competitions amongst music and of course, drinks. To be honest, you may get a few funny looks if you are attending a “back to school” rave and have not dressed up – however, if this is not your thing, there are loads of bars and clubs which will be open along the strip that do not necessarily participate in or promote the fancy dress parties.
8. Do check your hotel's house rules before booking! If this is going to be a huge party holiday for you and your friends, you may want to check the noise policy at the hotel you will be staying in – although Magaluf is known as the party central, a few hotels near the strip are still family hotels and will have strict policies about playing loud music at night or even during the day in your room or by the pool. Also, many hotels (even the noise-fiendly hotels) will not accept loud and drunken behaviour in the early hours of the morning when you will be returning from your raves (out of respect to the few guests who will be sleeping). After a warning or two the hotel staff WILL throw you out and you will not get your deposit back!
DON'TS:
1. Don't swim in any part of the sea near the strip!! As disgusting as this will sound it is VERY true, I am a witness... Many party-goers for some strange reason decide to mingle outside of the clubs and take Sex on the Beach to a whole new level – literally! The shore along the strip on most nights is filled with couples doing their thing right in the water – gross. The areas away from the strip however, are usually sex-free however!
2. Ladies – beware of men in alleyways asking you for “10 or 15 euros”. Innocent as this may sound, they are not actually asking you for money, but asking how much money you will accept – for sex! Yep, gross again. Female prostitutes usually work the corners in the early hours of the morning and can be seen emerging from the alleyways adjusting themselves and swiftly walking away from their customers..STAY AWAY from the alleys!
3. Don't entertain the very kind and charming men who sell glow in the dark bits and bobs outside the clubs if you are planning on returning to that specific area. They will keep asking you to buy things, they will remember your face and they will harass you!
4. Don't leave your group. Magaluf is a big place and although you may remember your way back to the hotel from the part of the strip you are on, your friends may not – especially when drunk! Try to stick together or if you are separating for any reason, keeps your phones with you.

5. Don't forget to lock the windows, doors, suitcases and safes in your hotel rooms. You'd be surprised how many people climb over balconies when their neighbours are not in and pinch their stuff! This literally happened to us and our neighbouring party-goers stole a phone and money from one of my friends' suitcases!
6. Please don't go straight from partying all night and morning into your hotel pool. It's unhygienic and it's....just nasty. Just shower first! Please!
7. Don't be a twat like my sister and lather your body in baby oil to 'bring out the tan'. During the hottest months Magaluf can get as hot at 36 degrees! Think of yourself as a little slice of bacon in a frying pan, hot oil + intense heat = burnt, crispy bacon!
8. I know I have touched on this in the dos but PLEASE don't get kicked out of your hotel. Honestly, you will be refused entry and will literally have to pack your things there and then and leave.

Most of all, have a damn good time! And don't do anything I wouldn't do! ;)
